The VL light RK55, wheel can have problems with the bearings in the wheelhead assembly due to the infusion of clay water from the drip tray. The symptom is usually a low grinding noise that gets louder over time. I have done a few repairs of these over the years and will share my method of fixing them. I use a small shop press to do the job. sorry about the number of videos but I don’t know how to splice them together.
Wheel prior to repair.
First up the wheel head needs to come off.
Sometimes the wheel head can refuse to budge and a simple jig can be used to do the job. Requires 3 blocks of wood and two G clamps.
Removing under cover and drive belt
Next job is to remove the head block that holds the bearings.
Now to use shop press to remove bearing shaft from head block.
Pushing out the bearing. 3 quick videos. The bearing is pushed out using the shop press.
Reassembling the bearing block.
Finishing up
