If your motor gives up the ghost and releases its magic white smoke then it will need replacing. Generally speaking it’s not worth the cost to have it rewound as the cost of a new one will likely be similar in price. If the grommets are old then do them at the same time . If the grommets are relatively new then you might just want to remove the motor only. It’s quite doable but somewhat finicky and a a few cuss words might escape your mouth.

It’s held in by two bolts . First you need to remove the two springs and unbolt the shackle that holds the spring and power cable on the cross bar. Tying the motor to the cross bar while removing the two bolts gives you a much better access and saves having to bend over so much.

Undo the bolts that hold the motor to the framework. See photo below. When you are new to this process it pays to take a couple of pictures so you remember where everything goes when it’s time to put them together again.

If your motor is completely dead then you can buy a replacement from most of the suppliers.
